Folks I got my self a
Palm Universal keyboard. :-) I thought I should review it as a first impression.
This is how it looks:
Pretty nifty thing. The time you spend with the fscking stylus just drops like anything. If you are a Palmist then this is a must have.
Mr. Aazad got me the thing today morning. On the first looks it is nothing like what you see above. Its not a normal guy's cup of tea to just open it like any other gizmo. dont you ever under-estimate the way it open up and closes. Pretty snug. I almost ripped it apart *just after buying* ! :O I could open it only after reading the soft copy of the '
Getting started'. I also went ahead and glanced thru the '
User's guide'. One disadvantage of getting stuff from the US is that your 'courier' may want(read:prefer) to leave the documentation and CD behind deliberately. Be ready to go thru the consequences. :-)
So, I finally set it up and the first thing I needed after two
AAA batteries is the
driver. For my Zire 72 the driver would be this one. Beware, driver changes have taken place you better get it right.
If you get the driver right then the rest should be a breeze.
So go ahead and mount the device and fire up the driver. Open up Memo and you should be able to type.
The first thing you'll notice is that your freedom from the stylus is just awesome. The next thing you'll notice is that most of the shortcut that have been replicated on various systems like
Windows,
GNOME,
KDE etc are missing or just wont work out of the box. So you'll need to read up the manual and set it up. And yes, a worthy mention is that there build in documentation in the keyboard driver prc file - something unheard of in the Palm(space:-). Well if you'd like to disagree on that then I'd really like you to raed it as - 'There is something really special about it!' :-)
Well all this said I can safely remember
harmanjitsingh's typing - it works fairly well.
Now to
PAN it up and get
pSSH >>
zsh ;-) >>
Emacs on my Zire 72 ! :-)
More later!™
